As a biologist, developing communication skills with the general public is an important component to convey our messages clearly. I've been involved in several science outreach activities ranging from conducting biodiversity awareness programs for school children, carrying out field workshops on biodiversity for nature enthusiasts, writing popular articles in science magazines and been part of webinar series. You will find some of these outreach activities in this page. 

Biodiversity awareness programs

  • A talk on Freshwater fishes of Sri Lanka, conducted by the Zoologists’ Association of University of Peradeniya. 2019.
  • One-day workshop on Biodiversity of Sri Lanka for school children, conducted by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. 2016.
  • Two-day nature camp and workshop on Biodiversity of Sri Lanka for school children conducted by Kegalle Balika Vidyalaya, Kegalle, Sri Lanka. 2015.
  • One-day workshop on Venomous Creatures for Scouts, conducted by Dharamaraja College, Kandy. 2014.


Field workshops

  • Three-day workshop on Taxonomy, biogeography and conservation for freshwater fishes of Sri Lanka, conducted by Friends of Biodiversity, Runakanda Rainforest Conservation Centre. 2018.
  • Three-day workshop on Aquatic Biodiversity of Sri Lanka, conducted by the Young Biologists’ Association of Sri Lanka. 2017.
